CHARLOTTE (May 10, 2023) – Prototype Sprint Series Association presented by Hankook (PSSA) just wrapped back-to-back weekends on the West Coast with competitions at Sonoma Raceway (April 28-30), followed by a weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca (May 5-7). The series drew drivers from around the country for a California adventure with a variety of Revolution and SEBECO/Élan prototypes taking the green flag.
San Diego native Ron Fletcher swept the West Coast swing in his No. 27 2022 Revolution A-1 500, leading the field to the checkered flag in all four feature races while racing in the PS1 category. At Sonoma Raceway, Fletcher led all PSSA competitors in every on-track session from practice and qualifying to the feature races and enduro. By the time the field arrived at WeatherTech Raceway, Fletcher sat out practice before continuing his quick pace to both lead qualifying and take the victory in the feature races.
In the PS3 category, both Francis Hu (No. 25A SEBECO/Élan NP01) and Chad Plavan (No. 02 Élan NP01) captured a victory during the Trans Am SpeedFest weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
Capturing four victories in PSSA’s first six races, Ron Fletcher currently leads the points standings. At the conclusion of the 16-race season, the driver who has accumulated the most points will be named the national champion to receive a $10,000 prize, as well as several product awards.
“We enjoyed a great run on the West Coast over the last two weeks with PSSA,” said Tony Parella, CEO of Parella Motorsports Holdings and founder of PSSA. “We’re three races in on the inaugural season, so to match our season-opening field from Road Atlanta, while racing on the opposite side of the country with a totally different group of West Coast racers, I think proves the strength of what this series can become. The Hankook Tires continued to show their consistency, while we enjoyed fun, safe racing. I can’t wait until we get to Mid-Ohio next month to see this group back in action.”
PSSA will return to action on Hankook tires at the PERMCO Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio, a SpeedTour event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, June 22-25.
